Let’s face it, Garage doors take up a lot of visual real estate.  When installing a garage door always keep in mind that this household equipment will either be adding or detracting from your curb appeal which in turn will be directly affecting the resale value of your home.

There are many things to think about when installing a new door.  First try to take into consideration the décor of your home.  You would never pair up a modern looking home with a picket white fence, right? So why would you pair up an inappropriate garage door to your home.   If your house is composed of loud colors then by all means go with a hot pink garage door, but if you have a rustic looking house you might consider going with an all wooden garage door.

When choosing the proper door look at materials as well.  A wooden door offers the qwidest range of design options.  It also works pretty well in all climates.  The downside is that wooden doors are the most expensive.  Steel is typically less expensive than wood depending on how thick you choose to go.  The downside for steel is it can rust so if you live around the coast you might want to avoid installing one of these.

Aluminum is another option you can go with.  Aluminum doors tend to be hovering around the same price as steel doors but do not rust.  If you do go with aluminum remember to go with a thicker caliber door so you avoid denting your door.

Fiberglass and vinyl are available on the market and are budget-friendly and rustproof.  The downside is that there are not as many options on the market.  You might have to settle for a design or color you really aren’t fond of.

When choosing a garage door it is always wise to hire professionals for your installation needs.  Hudson Valley Overhead Doors and Operators has some of the most experienced and helpful staff around.  For more information on Hudson Valley Overhead Door and Operators and their following services contact them today.
